06/27/13 – Last Day in Vegas
Today was our last day in Vegas. We had to be out of the room by 11am, so we slept in until about 9:30 and then took showers. We packed the car with all of our luggage, and then left the room keys in the hotel room. I will miss having a hotel room with A/C and a hot, untimed shower whenever I want it. It was a nice treat!
We walked around Circus Circus for a bit, to get some pictures to post on the internet. I wanted to emphasize how large the Adventure Dome really is, and I wanted to get a picture of the rollercoaster going upside-down.
Missions accomplished.
Molly wanted to eat at another famous Las Vegas buffet, and she decided that the Wynn hotel buffet would be a good choice. Unfortunately, we would have to wait until 3:30pm until the buffet opened. By this time, it was about 109F outside. My A/C in my car was practically not working – just blowing hot air while sitting still. I got some gas at a local gas station and then went to the Welcome to Las Vegas sign to take pictures. As soon as we got our pictures, an entire tour bus unloaded and there was instantly a line of 50+ people waiting to get their picture with the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. We decided to get out of the heat and headed to the Wynn hotel to walk around until the buffet opened.
We killed time by walking around all of the fancy shops at the Wynn, and then started the buffet. Molly had a TON of food, as did I. We tried to keep our selection specific, and skipped things like pasta, bread, etc. We both had Peking duck in an Asian bun, I had some sushi, Molly had crab legs, I had chorizo and potatoes, we had veal, and more. After about two plates of entrees, I started on the desserts. I had two servings of Crème Brule, three scoops of coffee gelato, a chocolate shot, and a piece of chocolate cake. I pooped during the middle of the meal and was able to fit in some more gelato after that. We tried to eat as much as comfortably possible, although I ate much less than yesterday. I think Molly was disgustingly full. We tried to get our money’s worth, and at $40/person, I hope we succeeded.
After the buffet, it was time to say goodbye to Vegas and head onward to San Diego.
My old college and rollerblading friend Matt is stationed in the navy, and lives and works in San Diego. We made the 300 mile, 5 hour drive to San Diego and made it there at nighttime. We all slept in his studio apartment, with the windows open. In the morning, a cool 70 degree breeze was keeping the room at a perfect temperature; all day and night we were enjoying the ambient temperature that being this close to the Pacific Ocean provides.
