We started by doing this front section of the house. The bottom right area, where the Celotex board is missing, was badly water damaged.
We replaced it with some new Polyiso board, and then started to replace the beveled Cedar siding.
I think it turned out pretty well!
We needed to replace all of the siding on this side of the house – it is the side that’s constantly battered by the sun, and we also had two bird nests in it, too!

We rented scaffolding (highly recommended) so we wouldn’t have to constantly move the ladders while working on these long sections.
This is where we stopped for the week, until we could resume. Notice where the old and new siding meet.
Here’s my dad! The insulation that you see in front of him is part of the attic. No foam boards between the attic and the outside.
I invested in a ladder stabilizer ($20). Highly recommended, especially at heights. It makes the ladder feel SO much more stable.
The chimney was in bad shape, so we decided to replace all of the siding on it, and to reinforce the frame with more 2×4’s.
While I was walking along the roof, I actually found a bullet lodged into the shingles.
