Great day to start touring Dallas by seeing someone get arrested in our hotel parking lot! We briefly explored the city via car. It was a very well organized city compared to Atlanta and very clean as well. The lanes were massive! We saw this awesome looking bridge in the city.

After we were done exploring the city, we headed west on I-20 for the Guadalope Mountains. It was over 500 miles of driving!

Ryan decided to get off at one of the exits to explore some of the country/county roads and we stumbled upon a tiny city called Moran, of 203 residents!

So I know it looks like I was hauling ass through there, but in reality I was going about 90mph (my car says I’m going faster than I actually am).  Speed limit was 80.  My car could barely maintain this speed!!  Poor little 1.6L Honda.

Couple hundred miles later we came upon Sweetwater, Texas, which is the wind capital of the USA.  We HAD to get off the interstate and get close to those things.  We probably spent at least an hour driving around to get this picture, so enjoy it!

I (Molly) was driving for a bit on I-20 when I started having terrible cramps and we pulled over to a picnic area (RIGHT BY THE INTERSTATE) and I almost pooped myself but I was able to bare it until we got to Stripes gas station couple exits up. I was definitely sweating a little…a lot. After the restroom stop, we bought flautas from Stripes, most delicious mini tacos on I-20.

We eventually arrived at Guadalupe Mountain maybe 10 hours later. When we were about 30 miles away from the campsite, a crazy lightning storm occurred, it was beautiful and frightening at the same time. It started raining significantly so we decided to sleep in the car for the night and not set up camp.

  1. I love reading about your journey. Especially about you almost pooping yourself because Grace and I are key witnesses.

    1. I (Ryan) thought it was funny because Molly was talking to you on the phone, then suddenly she was like “I’m having sharp pains right now, I’ll have to call you back”. I’m in the passenger seat, thinking she’s about to die or something. We pull over, she gets out and walks near a picnic table, doubles over like she’s in REAL pain, and I was just rubbing her back, not knowing what was going on. Then she looks up and is all like “I think I have to poop”. And she starts looking around! Like she’s really contemplating pooping 30 feet off the interstate – in TEXAS, none-the-less, where there are only knee-high shrubs everywhere. And there are these little roads that run parallel to the interstate (kind of like their version of service roads) and she was going to go poop on that or something. I managed to convince her not to go to such drastic measures. But it would have been a better story that way. =p
