So Molly and I were able to check in to our hotel around 2:30pm yesterday.  We got there after packing up the tent and car, and decided to go inside to check it out.  We were booked for 3 nights at a place called Circus Circus, at the end of the Las Vegas strip.  The main building is a huge dome building, with a dome-shaped amusement park-type place called the Adventure Dome.  Inside the Adventure Dome, you have a mini-theme park.  A rollercoaster soars above you – not a tame, indoor-type roller coaster, but one that does flips and loops above your head.  There is laser tag.  They have batting cages, arcade games, pictures, Ski-ball, and Mr. Fuzzy.

Mr. Fuzzy is this little worm-like creature that seems to move on his own.  I had to look it up on Google, but Mr. Fuzzy has a small piece of almost invisible string connected to his head, which is also connected to the wrist/finger of the performer.  The girl that showed us Mr. Fuzzy didn’t seem like a professional, but the way Mr. Fuzzy was moving around convinced me otherwise.  I was watching her hands as well and couldn’t tell that he was being moved by a string.  She tried to sell us Mr. Fuzzy, but we declined and I Googled it later.  It was really bugging me!  You guys should watch the video on YouTube.

After walking around Circus Circus for quite some time, we were able to check in to our room.  Our room is the standard hotel room, but it is really nice to have a hot shower and a toilet whenever you want it.  We each must have taken 30 minute showers, and I also cut my hair and shaved my face.  I feel all nice and clean for Vegas now!

We went to a place called Ellis Island to eat.  They had a pretty good deal going on – if you signed up for their Player’s Club, you could get a $7.99 dinner deal, which included a steak, baked potato, salad, and a 20oz homebrewed beer.  Not a bad deal.  We ended up paying around $24 for dinner, but we each had steak, and Molly had a shrimp/steak entrée.

After dinner, we were going to come back to the hotel, relax and digest our food for a bit, and then go walk around the Strip some.  Instead, we ended up falling asleep around 10pm and sleeping until 9:30 or 10:00am.  It was glorious to sleep in a bed, with A/C, and not having to worry about the sun waking me up at 8:30am.

Today, we woke up and lounged for awhile in the room, then went to get some Vietnamese Sandwiches for lunch.  They are cheap enough $3.25/ea and they definitely do the trick.  Reminds us of home, too.  We went to another place called Lee’s Sandwiches, because we were on the way to the original sandwich place when we saw a billboard with an avocado smoothie on it.  Avocado smoothies are amazing, by the way.  If you’ve never tried one, I recommend going to a Banh Mi sandwich shop (like Banh Mi in Duluth, off of Satellite Blvd) and getting one.  It’s a new taste, for sure, but a good one.

Lee’s Sandwiches is unlike any other Asian sandwich shop I have ever been in.  It is more modernized.  One wall was completely covered with Hello Kitty porcelain stuff (to be expected), but they ran the restaurant more like a fast-food place than a little sandwich shop.  There is a screen which shows your order number when it is ready, there were three different sections of seating, which were all relatively full for a Tuesday lunch-time, and they sold all types of food – not just Asian sandwiches (although those were definitely the main reason that people were there).  I think they should open one of these in Gwinnett.

After sandwiches, we went back towards the hotel and decided to walk down the Strip.  In order to cover it all in two days, we decided to walk down one side today, and then the other side tomorrow.  We hit places like Caesar’s Palace, Luxor, Treasure Island, Mirage, Excalibur, and many more that I’m not remembering.  We walked in/out of them, took pictures, etc.  Didn’t really do anything too out of the ordinary, worth mentioning on here.  The Strip is HUGE, though.  It’s like three dozen shopping malls, all joined together.  Too many Gucci, Louis Vutton, and other shops to name.  We didn’t buy anything except food and a beer at a CVS, but I don’t understand how people can walk around all day and buy stuff that they don’t even need.  I did gamble about $10 today in various slots..I found one that I LOVED and was up about $4, but I ended up losing it all in the end.  It was fish-themed, but I don’t remember the exact name of it.  Molly was ready to leave, though.  She didn’t want to play the slots, and just waited on me for probably half an hour or more.

Anyway, back to the walking!  I wasn’t anticipating having to walk up a pedestrian bridge and back down the other side every time I wanted to cross an intersection.  After walking up and down the entire side of the Strip, I have a pretty large blister on my big toe.  Not fun.  Definitely going to have to find some Moleskin to protect that sucker for the next few days.  We are back at the hotel, and I think we are going to go to Lee’s Sandwiches for dinner.  Then if we have the energy, we will go to Fremont Street and check out downtown.  I’m going to see if there is free/cheap parking around there, although honesty I’m not sure we will have the motivation or energy after eating to do that!

  1. So was Vegas what you had pictured? Make sure you go around 10 pm to see the fountains at the Bellagio. You should have the list of must-sees on your phone that I had given you before. Sorry about your blister – I am shocked you did not pack your moleskin – haha.

    1. Downtown Vegas – the Fremont Experience – is what I pictured Vegas to be like. We went tonight, and it was absolutely crazy! I loved how the streets were packed, performers were everywhere, and most importantly the sheer amount of LIGHTS they had at all times. Definitely a sensory overload. I wore MoleSkin today – it semi-worked! I am shocked that we missed those tigers, though!

      1. Remember initially I was going to book you a room down there. I thought you would get a kick out of. Did you see the zipline in the middle of the street. Vegas is such a unique experience. I am so thrilled you two got to experience it! Definitely a hard place to explain. Have fun in San Diego!

        1. Yeah! I liked Fremont Experience better than the Strip, but I’ll be glad to say I stayed on the Strip. Plus it was a lot easier to get up and down the Strip since I was already staying on it. The Fremont Experience area was LOUD! I don’t know if I could have slept through that business.
